SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 103

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to study the Historical Preservation Office’s authority to review projects at the state and local levels.

    Whereas, The Historical Preservation Office is part of the approval process of public and private economic development projects; and

    Whereas, As a state agency, private citizens are affected by the actions taken by the Historical Preservation Office; and

    Whereas, The Historical Preservation Office handles not only individual reviews of historical structures, but is also the formal state agency that nominates structures and areas to the National Historic Register; and

    Whereas, The Historical Preservation Office’s actions may have far reaching effects; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to study the Historical Preservation Office’s authority to review projects at the state and local level; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2013, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
